Brake Repair: DIY Front Rotor Replacement for a 2007 Toyota Tundra

Problem: Worn Brake Rotors

Squealing, grinding, or vibration when braking can all indicate worn brake rotors. These components are essential for stopping your vehicle safely, so it's important to address any issues promptly.

This post will guide you through the process of replacing the front brake rotors on a 2007 Toyota Tundra. It's a relatively straightforward DIY project that will save you money and ensure your vehicle is safe to drive.

Required Parts:

  • Front brake rotors (x2)
  • Front brake pads (optional)
  • 049450C040 Front shim kit
  • 9024006024 Front

Tools Needed:

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Floor jack
  • Socket wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Caliper spreader
  • Brake cleaner

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Park your Toyota Tundra on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Locate the front wheel that needs to be repaired and place a jack stand next to it for safety.
  3. Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel, but do not remove them completely.
  4. Lift the front of the vehicle using the floor jack and secure it with the jack stand.
  5. Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
  6. Use a socket wrench to remove the caliper mounting bolts. Carefully lift the caliper off the rotor and suspend it using a bungee cord or wire.
  7. Remove the old brake pads and inspect the caliper for any damage.
  8. Clean the hub and rotor surface with brake cleaner.
  9. Install the new brake rotors and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications using a torque wrench.
  10. Reinstall the caliper and tighten the mounting bolts.
  11. Install the new brake pads.
  12. Put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts by hand as much as possible.
  13. Lower the vehicle and fully tighten the lug nuts using the torque wrench.
  14. Repeat the process for the other front wheel.
  15. Test drive your vehicle to ensure the brakes are working properly.
